Company Principals
Stanley R. Terlecky,
Ph.D., Company President – is Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the
Wayne State University School of Medicine and a member of the Karmanos Cancer
Institute. His NIH-funded laboratory is interested in the molecular mechanisms
of peroxisome biogenesis in human health, disease, and aging. He is the author
of thirty-one published articles in various areas of biochemical and cell
biological research. Dr. Terlecky graduated with a B.A. from New York
University, a Ph.D. (in Cellular and Molecular Physiology) from the Sackler
School of Tufts University’s School of Medicine, and was an NIH-fellow in the
Department of Biology at the University of California, San Diego. Among his
honors are the National Research Service Award from the NIH, the Basil O’Conner
Research Scholar Award from the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, Wayne
State University’s Academy of Scholars Junior Lectureship, and Wayne State
University School of Medicine’s Research Excellence and College Teaching Awards.
Paul A. Walton, Ph.D.,
Vice President in charge of research and development – is internationally known
for his work on the post-translational import of cellular proteins. He received
his B.Sc. in Biology from Bishop’s University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from
the University of Western Ontario. His postdoctoral training in the areas of
signal transduction, cellular membranes and protein trafficking was obtained at
the University of Pennsylvania, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, and the
University of California, San Diego. His awards include the University Prize in
Biology from Bishop’s University, Dr. William Zaharia Award from the University
of Western Ontario, Long Island Biological Association Postdoctoral Fellowship
from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, Medical Research Council of Canada
Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the Charles Monat Medical Research Scholarship from
McGill University. He is presently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of
Medicine at the University of Western Ontario
John I. Tesija,
Secretary/Treasurer, in charge of operations – senior partner in Novara, Tesija,
and McGuire, P.L.L.C., is an attorney licensed to practice in the States of
Michigan and Ohio, as well as in Federal courts. Mr. Tesija specializes in
corporate, labor, and employee benefits law. As part of his practice, Mr. Tesija
represents large pension funds that maintain relationships with venture capital,
investment management, and similar financial institutions throughout the
country. Mr. Tesija received his B.A. Cum Laude, from the University of Michigan
and J.D. Cum Laude, from the University of Detroit School of Law.
Gary W. Novara,
Vice President, in charge of business development – of counsel to Novara, Tesija
and McGuire, P.L.L.C., is an attorney licensed to practice in the State of
Michigan, as well as in Federal courts. Mr. Novara received his B.A. Magna Cum
Laude, from the University of Detroit and J.D. Summa Cum Laude, from the
University of Detroit School of Law. Mr. Novara has extensive experience in the
formation and management of startup companies. He also maintains close
relationships with numerous financial and venture capital institutions that
participate in various investment projects, involving unions and pension funds.
